The votes are in! An updated bookmark template with our results will be uploaded in our Google Classroom. If you see a book that "Needs More Readers," then we need more people to read it and weigh in! If you see a book on the "Fading Fast" list, these are books that didn't get enough readers or votes. Let's not eliminate books because no one got around to read them-- check out the spreadsheet to see what everyone's been reading and figure out if a book on the Fading Fast list just didn't get a fair chance (hasn't been read). And if you see a book on the Fading Fast list that you don't think should be there, go on Classroom and post! Fight for it! Get people to read it.

Hey there, Newberians!
It looks like we'll have a new book at our next meeting. I should be picking up the copy this weekend. Which book is it? You'll have to come to find out. See you next time! Hail, Newberians!
Due to multiple schedule conflicts that have appeared recently, our next meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, September 28th, has been moved to Wednesday, September 27th. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. If you're unable to make it due to previously scheduled commitments, that's OK. We'll see you next time! We love that students have already been using Google Classroom to review books and start commenting. Please continue to do so! Since we are not meeting every week, we intended on using Classroom to continue our discussion on our books. See you Wednesday! It was so great to see everyone at our first Newbery Club meeting today!
Although we will update this blog occasionally, remember that the bulk of our communication will be in Google Classroom and email. That's where you will review books and discuss. :) See you at the next meeting on September 28th! Check out books from us often! Have you ever felt like you possess what it takes to hand out a big time book award? Or have you ever wondered why some books win awards while others that you really liked didn't get recognized?
This year, AMS is continuing the Newbery Club for interested 7th and 8th graders. The club will hold discussions online and meet in person every other Thursday afternoon from 3:15 to 4:45 from September until the actual Newbery Medal winner and Honor books are announced by the American Library Association in January 2018. If you are interested in joining, you must commit to reading enough eligible books by the time we hold our club vote in January. At our meetings (online and in person), we will discuss the merits of specific books pertaining to the Newbery criteria. We will award our own AMS Newbery winner. And, hopefully, we will watch the real Newbery announced live in January. For more information, please check out our Resources page. Most of our up to date news, announcements, polls, and discussions will be posted in our private Google Classroom class, which will require you to log in using your WakeID Portal information. If you need help logging in to the WakeID Portal, please see your teacher or your media specialist, Mrs. McAlonen! |
